Description
The name Cuyahoga is believed to mean "crooked river" from the Mohawk Indian name Cayagaga, although the Senecas called it Cuyohaga, or "place of the jawbone". It is a very unusual river in that it is in the shape of a big U and flows both in a southerly direction and a northerly direction. As it flows through Cleveland it has a very crooked route winding like a snake under numerous brdges. If one drives through what are know as the "Flats" it is possible you will cross the river five or six times on the same road.
