Description
World Guide Covered Bridges # 35-01-02 Built in1855. 110 foot Multiple Kingpost Truss plus arch . many do not know that the Civil War did come to Ohio. In 1863 2500 Confederate raiders under the command of John Hunt Morgan crossed into Ohio on a diversionary raid. Sometime during this month long raid they crossed this bridge pursued by Union Cavalry. Usually they would burn the bridges after crossing to slow down the Union pursuers, but for some reason they left Harshaville bridge standing.

Thank You Michael for your comments. There were many covered bridges burned during this raid to slow down the pursuing Union Calvery, why this one was spared is a mystery. I have visited the Sachs bridge at Gettysburg, it is a very beautiful bridge.

Great find and even greater description. I knew the Civil War came to Ohio and not surprised that covered bridges were involved. This is similar to the Sachs covered bridge at the Gettysburg Battlefield (160th anniversary of the battle in just a few weeks). Nice work, Robert (but then, it's not really work is it). - Mike (V)
