Description
B & O Black River Viaduct. Built By B&O between 1892 and 1907. 3 arches 85' high 300 ft long. Stones were cut by foreign stonecutters and took over 2 years to build. The building of the bridge started a feud between the railroad and local farmers. To build up the grade to the bridge the railroad filled in a road that the farmers used to get their goods to market. The farmers got together for a night raid and dynamited the filled in road to open it up again. The railroad thereafter agreed to build another arch bridge over the road to keep the road open. Known locally as the "highline" and this bridge was known as the Treaschers Bridge.
